In 1986, the Rémy Martin Group founded La Grande Cave, a company specialising in the purchase and conservation of Grands Crus Classés. This is placed under the responsibility of two of the group’s subsidiaries, Maison A. de Luze, which specialises in the conservation and sales of upmarket wines, and Maison Nicolas, whose stamp was a symbol of professionalism recognised by the greatest owners. The Nicolas family had founded its trading company in 1822 and, alongside this, built up a cellar that housed the leading Bordeaux wines, such as Château Yquem, Château Lafite or Château Mouton, in the greatest vintages, such as 1864, 1928 or 1961.

When Maison de Luze joined Grands Vins de Gironde in 1991, La Grande Cave became a subsidiary of the group.
It specialises in buying Grands Crus Classés from châteaux. It has built up partnerships with many of them and even has exclusivity for certain second wines.
