In 1973, Monsieur and Madame Pasquon bought Château Bel Air, situated in the commune of Caplong, on the borders of the Entre-Deux-Mers region. The region is characterised by its many valleys and hillsides. The Château Bel Air vineyards have been extended over the years and now cover 17.48 ha, thus doubling their area in 35 years. Armand Pasquon and his wife do all the vineyard work themselves and make the wine. They have been partners of Grands Vins de Gironde for many years, and of De Rivoyre before that. The vines are between 7 and 35 years old and are planted on clay and “boulbènes” soils. They consists of 37% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Sauvignon Blanc. They are machine-harvested. The cellars have a capacity of 2200 hl and contain cement and resin vats. Vinification is traditional. Vatting time varies between two and three weeks depending on the year and is determined after checks on maturity and tastings by oenologists. The wine is then sent to GVG where it is partially matured in oak barrels before bottling. The wine reveals blackberry, black cherry, tobacco and violet aromas. Complex and pleasant, with blackberry and cedar flavours and a Morello cherry finish. Enjoy it with red meat.
