Colombier de Château Brown is the second wine of Château Brown, a famous “cru classé” in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The château was founded in the late Middle Ages and owes its name to the rich Scottish merchant John Lewis Brown, who settled in Bordeaux in the 18th century, illustrating the close ties that existed between England and the Bordeaux region. Château Brown’s second wine takes its name from the stone dovecote built at the heart of the château grounds. The practice of having a second wine means that a wine can be made with the same characteristics but may be enjoyed younger than the château’s great wine. Colombier de Château Brown red is made from 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot, and Colombier de Château Brown white from 40% Sauvignon and 60% Semillon. The grapes are hand-picked, then vinified in stainless steel vats. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels for two years for the red and one year for the white. Grands Vins de Gironde has exclusive rights and distributes the wines throughout France and Europe.

Colombier de Château Brown red is a deep, vivid red colour with lovely ruby tints. The nose reveals an intense fruit bouquet with a very delicate oakiness. Long and silky on the palate with very soft tannins on the finish. Serve with poultry and red and white meats. Colombier de Château Brown white is a vivid colour with golden tints. Its powerful, elegant bouquet reveals notes of muscat, apricot, peaches and white blossom. It is characterised by great finesse and elegance on the palate, with a hint of aniseed and a persistent acidity.
